Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung is suing Sowetan for R500000 for defamation.

This stems from an article in Sowetan earlier this year that the Pretoria high court had granted Motaung an interdict preventing Mbombela Municipality from publicly releasing information regarding the details of his company's tender to build a stadium in Nelspruit.

Motaung is the executive director of Lefika Emerging Equity, which has been contracted to build the 2010 World Cup Mbombela stadium.

The municipality had resolved to institute a forensic investigation into the tender process, saying it was in the public interest.

Motaung is arguing that a front page headline in Sowetan which said that he had stopped the council from revealing details of a R43million tender "fraud" was defamatory.
