Youth Development Centre For Orphans (Yudeco) is organising the yearly multisport Selope Thema Games Against Crime to keep the youngsters busy through the Easter school holidays.

The games take place from Good Friday, March 21 to April 6 at the KwaThema Sporting Complex - a newly developed multipurpose sports centre with adequate space and security.

Pule Malefane, one of the coordinators, said: "The games are intended to mobilise young and old people during the Easter festivities to engage in recreational and sporting activities that will contribute towards a crime-free holiday period in the Ekurhuleni metropolitan region.

"We also see the games contributing to mobilising our communities to be ready to demonstrate the passion our communities have in sport, and football in particular, and mobilising everyone becomes crucial in making the 2010 Soccer World Cup a success."

The games are also in honour of struggle stalwart and a founder of Bantu World newspaper, the predecessor to Sowetan, Richard Victor Selope Thema, after whom KwaThema township, in Ekurhuleni, is named.

"The 2010 Soccer World Cup will be hosted by our country and partnerships between communities and business to make it a success cannot be over-emphasised," Malefane said.

The registration deadline is on Saturday. For further information contact coordinators Seth Thwala at 0823925269, Don Nhlapo at 0723265792 or Kervin Simelane at (011)8121833 (office).
