Mamelodi Sundowns caused a major upset when they beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 in a Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium yesterday.

It was sweet revenge for The Brazilians after losing by the same margin in the first round.

The win ended the KwaZulu-Natal outfit's unbeaten run in the second round. The enterprising Arrows had gone five games without a loss.

For Sundowns, it was the first league win for caretaker coach Trott Moloto after they were hammered 3-1 by Moroka Swallows last week.

The visitors surged ahead in the 41st minute through Aldave Benitez after connecting with a pass from Ezrom Nyandoro.

Former Free State Stars striker Fanyana Dhladhla scored his first goal for Sundowns in the 55th minute with a thunderous long-range shot.

Papi Zothwane reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute from the penalty spot after Jorge Acuna rough-tackled Arrows' Thokozani Mshengu.

l In Orkney, a 10-man Free State Stars played to a goalless draw with Jomo Cosmos in a Premiership game at Oppenheimer Stadium yesterday, MeshackMotloung reports.

Sipho Nkosi got his marching orders after a second bookable offence in the 42nd minute. But the QwaQwa outfit were by no means disappointing.

They took the fight to Ezenkosi, who they had defeated twice this season - in the first round of the league and Telkom Knockout. Playing in excruciating heat, both sides produced their best.
