Teacher unions issue ultimatum

The department of education in KwaZulu-Natal has until today to make an out-of-court settlement to avoid a bruising battle with teachers over the docking of their salaries from this month until June.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) and the National Allied Professional Teachers of South Africa (Naptosa) said yesterday the department should give assurances it would not go ahead with docking their salaries until a suitable solution was found.

The unions said they would take legal action against the department if it did not respond to their ultimatum today.. - Sne Masuku
