Targeting vendors is reliving apartheid

Whoever came up with the idea to remove vendors from the streets of Soweto should be condemned. I hope it's not a cheap stunt to portray a false image of our country in 2010. All countries in the world have street vendors.

People who are trying to make an honest living are punished. I guess the man I overheard saying "maybe they want us all to be criminals as well", had a point.

The municipality's action of confiscating vendors' stock and ejecting them is Draconian. Our government seems intent on making enemies with poor people. Stopping people from making a living without providing an alternative is a crime.

Some of the parents of the politicians who are making these stupid decisions were themselves informal traders once. It is apartheid all over again. If politicians want a share of vendors' profit, they should be ashamed of themselves. Vendors don't make enough to feed their families.
