SuperSport United reinforced their challenge for the Absa Premiership title with a 3-2 win over Ajax Cape Town in a top-of-the-table clash at Super Stadium last night.

Despite the defeat, Ajax are still topping the table with 40 points from 21 games, with United second on 39 points from the same number of matches.

United made their intentions clear in the 19th minute when South African junior international Kermit Erasmus broke the deadlock after he was set-up by Tefera Fikru.

Ajax levelled matters four minutes later when in-form striker Nathan Paulse made no mistake after United's defender Thabo September failed to clear the ball.

Franklin Gale grabbed the second goal for the visitors after a defensive error by Siboniso Gaxa in the 50th minute.

Second half substitute, Katlego Mashego who came on for Fikru, made his presence felt in the 68th minute to equalise for the home side.

Three minutes later, Daine Klate finally scored with a long range shot to easily beat Ajax's goalie Hans Vonk, who despite their loss had a great game.

United's coach Gavin Hunt had to sprint to the athletics track where he was joined by his assistant Thomas Madidage in celebrating Klate's superb goal.

In Cape Town, Santos continued their impressive run when they defeated BidVest Wits 2-1 at Athlone Stadium last night, reports Thami Nqolobe.

South African Under-23 international striker Eleazar Rodgers opened the scoring in the 14th minute after a pass from Steven French.

Former Santos striker Marawaan Bantam equalised in the 64th minute only to see the evergreen Rodgers completing his brace in the 84th minute.
