Justice served

It is beyond question that speedy justice can boost public confidence in the criminal justice system immeasurably.

It is beyond question that speedy justice can boost public confidence in the criminal justice system immeasurably.

To that extent we can expect a measure of public euphoria after the conviction and sentencing yesterday of three men convicted of killing a 15-month-old baby on her mother's back in 2006.

Each of the accused was given two life sentences by Judge Nigel Willis in the Johannesburg High Court.

While the finale in this case might not bring back the life of Khensani Mtileni, it will nonetheless precipitate closure for her family.

Then 15 months old, baby Khensani was killed by a stray bullet during a shootout.

All involved in the prosecution, including police, deserve a pat for a job well done.
