A team led by an independent law firm appointed by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sbu Ndebele has officially laid 26 formal charges against embattled provincial agriculture and environmental affairs department head Modidima Mannya.

Mannya is charged with contravening the senior management service (SMS) handbook under the Public Service Act.

The department is in crisis after a breakdown in communications between Mannya and top managers including MEC Mtholephi Mthimkhulu.

Mannya was suspended more than a week ago on full pay.

Staff had asked for Ndebele's involvement, complaining about Mannya's management style. The staff is reportedly divided following the suspension.
