Madisha pays for fighting decay

The expulsion of Willy Madisha from Cosatu was inevitable.

The expulsion of Willy Madisha from Cosatu was inevitable.

The purging of Thabo Mbeki's allies has begun. Madisha's sin was his decision to expose the misuse of a credit card by Zwelinzima Vavi. Failing to read the balance of forces, he took Vavi to task for the mismanagement of his credit card.

He went further to support Charles Modise's statement that he (Modise) donated R500000 to the SACP. At the time the SACP was in the red. The SACP could not pay staff salaries and services like electricity, water and rentals.

Madisha is now crucified for standing firmly against corruption and money laundering. Worse, he appeared on the list of Mbeki's allies at the Polokwane conference.

Dictatorship does not announce its arrival. It ruthlessly imposes itself. Madisha forgets that survival of the SACP depends on Cosatu's purse. Vavi, as an employee of Cosatu, has succeeded in expelling his employer, the president of Cosatu. The next victim is general-secretary of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA Silumko Nondwangu, who also appeared on Mbeki's list.

The struggle to fight corruption has been reversed with the expulsion of Madisha. Vavi has never apologised for the misuse of the credit card.
