Celtic, leopards fire coaches

The dismissal of Premiership coaches continued yesterday with Khabo Zondo parting ways with Bloemfontein Celtic, while Boebie Solomons was suspended by Black Leopards.

Zondo left Phunya Selesele yesterday after a meeting following a string of poor results.

The latest setback for the Free State outfit was a 3-1 hammering by Moroka Swallows in an Absa Premiership match in Germiston on Sunday.

Zondo ignored Sowetan 's calls last night.

Sello Nduna, Celtic spokesman, said: "Positive results were not forthcoming, the two parties decided to part ways on that basis."

Nduna said Benjamin Reed and David Modise have been appointed joint caretaker coaches until a permanent replacement can been found.

Sowetan has learnt that Steve Komphela, Serame Letsoaka and Milutin Sredojevic were among the coaches targeted by Celtic.

In Limpopo, Solomons' suspension could be the beginning of a move by the club to fire him after a series of poor results this season.

The club has confiscated their car from Solomons who is due to meet the club's management tomorrow.

The former Santos and Bidvest Wits coach confirmed to Sowetan yesterday that he has been suspended with his assistant Ramadhan Nsanzurwimo.

Solomons said he signed a performance-driven contract with Leopards in the off-season.

"I have been suspended without pay because of poor results and I will appear before their disciplinary committee on Wednesday," Solomons explained yesterday.

Leopards' boss David Thidiela refused to comment about the suspension.

Speculation is rife, though, that Thidiela is keen to renew ties with Durban-based coach Mlungisi "Professor" Ngubane.

Ironically, Thidiela said he was in Durban when Sowetan contacted him yesterday.

Joel Masutha, who is the side's goalkeeper coach, is believed to have been appointed stand-in coach.
