The news that the radiant smile and warm personality of our sister, daughter and friend Nomsa "Cheryl" Motloung had died came as a shock despite the fact that five years ago she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called antiphospholipid syndrome.

Though she had this rare disorder, her passing last Thursday was sudden and unexpected.

After being diagnosed she wanted to know as much as possible about the disease and conducted extensive research on it.

She was instrumental in educating others about this virtually unknown yet deadly disease and was dedicated to improving the lives of newly diagnosed patients at the haematology clinic at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

For years she also battled with arthritis.

A very loving and caring family matriarch, Motloung was unassuming of character yet assertive and untiring.

Born in Orlando East, Soweto, she attended Ditawana and Leratong primary schools and matriculated at Lofentse Girls High School. She then enrolled for a national diploma in real estate and property management with the then Technikon RSA.

An ardent and passionate entrepreneur, she started her hair and beauty salon business before diversifying into the curtain design business.

Her approach to her clients was phenomenal and was evident in her meticulous work. Whenever she was working on an order she would do it with all her love.

Motloung will be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery. The service, at the DOCC in Orlando East, starts at 9am.
