The bail application of three people accused of attempting to murder ANC councillor Mbudzeni Mulandana was postponed in the Vuwani magistrate's court yesterday.

Mulandana was shot in the chest but managed to escape through a window after hiding behind a door in his house in Dzwerani.

The case was postponed to March 17 after the attorney of the accused, Wilson Mulaudzi, 64, and his son Shumani, 34, asked the court to postpone the matter to enable them to consult with senior counsel.

The two accused were arrested together with Kendy Mulandana, 48, the councillor's wife who is alleged to have hired hit men to kill her husband for unknown reasons.

Richard Mathobo, representing the two, told the court that he could not proceed with the bail application because he needed advice from the senior counsel on the matter.

Kendy's legal representative advocate Tzunzuka Maluleke said he was worried about the bail application delays.

He therefore asked the court to postpone the hearing for the last time as his clients constitutional rights were not being considered.

Mathobo also asked the court to allow Shumani to be taken to hospital for medical examination because he was allegedly assaulted by the police.

He said Shumani was assaulted by police when he was arrested.
