The video on these despicable actions is proof that apartheid, especially in Free State, is still alive and thriving.

We appreciate the condemnation of these shameful acts by the Freedom Front Plus and the university management, which has since taken steps to discipline the culprits.

The shocking incident is reported barely two months after ANC MP Dennis Bloem discovered during a fact-finding mission that the judiciary in Free State is still racist.

He found that black offenders were sentenced to lengthy jail terms while whites were being sent to rehabilitation centres.

This is outrageous.

The truth is that there are still some white hotheads in that province who have no regard for black people.

It is a disgrace for young university students to treat elderly people like animals simply because of the colour of their skin and to drive home their racist points.

We are glad that the Human Rights Commission is also investigating the scandal and has promised to take appropriate action.

There is absolutely no room for such barbarism in a democratic South Africa.
