The glitter and glamour of the Audi Joburg Fashion Week is upon us. The prestigious event runs from March 5 to March 8.
A cocktail of established and new designers will showcase their Autum-Winter 2008 creations at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
Guests will be able to feast on creations by designers such as doyenne Marianne Fassler, David Tlale, Maya Prass, Sun Godd'ess, Stoned Cherrie, Kluk CGdT, Thula Sindi and Fundudzi under creative director Craig Jacobs.
Young designers - Tlale, Fundudzi and Sindi - made their international debut at the 2007 Paris Fashion Week with AFI and Gavin Rajah's C'est-Couture initiative.
Sandton Convention Centre, with the blessings of the organisers, decided to move opening day in Soweto to Sandton because of concerns over traffic gridlock, compounded by traffic light failures around the city. African Fashion International chief executive said: "Because the Paul Jackson said: Because the recent power cuts have made it difficult for people to move around Joburg, organisers were concerned that this may affect attendances at the Soweto collections and have therefore moved the shows to Sandton in consultation with the affected designers."
The show will kick off with new-generation designers such as Frans Kies, Abigail Keats, Audrey Mokhari and Thembisile Mazibuko, followed by Siphakeme Ndlovu and Mosewa Mosa.
Anchoring the evening will be Fassler, with Thesis and Machere hard on her heels.
On Thursday, March 6, the show will feature Ifa Lethu and Karen Monk Klijnstra, followed by Viyella, after which Kluk CGdT and Sun Goddess.
Mzansi Designers and Broken Storm open proceedings on Friday March 7. After that, Prass, Jacobs and Tlale will set the catwalk alight with their respective shows.
Closing off Fashion Week on Saturday March 8, will be Sindi, JJ Schoeman and Stoned Cherrie.
The event is operated by African Fashion International, which also runs Cape Town Fashion Week and the Spring-Summer Joburg Fashion Week.
