I feel it is important to provide solutions in time of distress, like when a baby was stolen from a young mother at Mamelodi Hospital recently.

Surely the SAPS and Metro police must know that CCTV is an important tool for deterring and catching criminals. Cameras should be placed in public hospitals, bus and taxi ranks and stations.

Every morning, or at the beginning of a shift, police officers must atone and take an oath of dedication and commitment to keep South African citizens safe.

In addition to this, the drive to seek training and improve performance must be the cornerstone of everyone holding high office. This will encourage police officers on the ground to be committed to serve citizens.

CCTV should accompany training and law-enforcement duties. If this is done, babies will be safe in hospitals and taxi and bus ranks will be safe for women, who will feel free to dress as comfortably as they wish.

There were no Eurocentric bras and long dresses at one time in Africa so a mini skirt is definitely no excuse for men to abuse women. African men had for many decades been accustomed to seeing topless women and they never insulted or abused women.

This new notion that it is un-African to wear a mini skirt has no substance. For those men who refuse to respect women, the law must come down hard.
