Prominent Danish sports wear company Hummel is coming on board as technical sponsors of the Dona's Mates Youth Development Project in Orange Farm.

This was announced at a function in Orange Farm on Saturday by James "Maradona" Shabangu, chairman of Dona's Mates.

On the same day Dona's Mates received R100 000 from the Gauteng department of sport, arts, culture and recreation to buy equipment and host competitions.

Shabangu said they had used part of the money to buy new playing kit and other equipment for their 10 divisions.

Besides playing in the local Safa leagues in various categories, Dona's Mates also host prestigious competitions in the Easter and festive season holidays.

"We are delighted that Hummel is coming on board, we could not have asked for a greater start to the new year than having a technical sponsor," said Shabangu.

"We also appreciate the support from Gauteng MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation Barbara Creecy and people in her department.

"Bafana Bafana won't be able to get quality players if development is neglected.

"We will be announcing another major partnership with a top company soon.

"There are many companies who are keen to assist soccer financially. There is no doubt that their coming on board will be one of the 2010 World Cup legacy projects."
