Thanda Royal Zulu displayed poor football when they went down 1-2 to Platinum Stars in a ding dong game played before 1 000 soccer fans at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Stars led 2-0 at interval.

There was little excitement from beginning to end as Thanda Royal players looked tired. Within the first few minutes, July Mahlangu of Royal Zulu missed a sitter with only Stars goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini to beat. His shot went over the bar.

Fifteen minutes later, Mahlangu was in the picture again when he collected a pass from Serge Djiehoua who was also off form, but failed to capitalise.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Phumudzo Manenzhe headed in a high corner taken by Joseph Mkhaliphi. A minute later, Kapini failed to hold Bernard Mnguni's shot but, fortunately, his defenders managed to clear the ball before it crossed the line.

In the 25th minute, Stars' Luis Renteria increased the tally when he out dribbled Patrick Mayo before scoring. In the 79th minute of the game, Djiehoua scored for Royal Zulu after Kapini chested the ball into his feet. - Sapa
