HARARE - Banyana Banyana came from behind to register an emphatic 4-1 win over Zimbabwe in the first leg of African Women's Championship in Harare on Saturday afternoon.

The South Africans were trailing 1-0 at halftime, with the first half dominated by the home side.

Things changed when SA's head coach, Augustine "Mthakathi" Makalakalane, brought on midfielder Merry Ntsweng in place of defender Keneilwe Mathibela.

That was when Banyana moved forward with purpose and were rewarded with goals from striker, Noko Matlou, who scored a brace. Midfielders Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Mamello Makhabane scored one apiece.

Banyana team manager, Fran Hilton Smith praised her players who showed character away from home despite the fact that the squad was made up of new recruits. - Sapa
