Banyana on the war path

Banyana Banyana will go for the jugular when they take on Zimbabwe in a crucial qualifier for the African Women's Championships in Harare tomorrow at 3pm.

Fran Hilton-Smith, the team manager, told Sowetan yesterday they would leave no stone unturned to beat the Zimbabweans on home soil.

This game is a do-or-die match for the South Africans because tomorrow's winner will qualify for the African Women's Championships billed for Guinea late this year.

Coach Augustine Makalakalane, who had shown confidence in his charges that lost 1-0 to Nigeria at the weekend, has promised not to tamper with the team.

But he will ring two changes with Xolisile Mnikati replacing Linah Motsebo, who jetted out yesterday to the US for trials, while Hlenge Ngwane will replace the injured Janine van Wyk.

"This team is a fairly young, talented side which I'm grooming to lead Banyana's march towards becoming the number one team in Africa. That march starts against Zimbabwe on Saturday [tomorrow]," said Makalakalane.
