Most of you might have seen the new creation from Mazda. It came into the country quietly in November last year. But the folks at Silverton only officially launched the car in Magaliesberg last week. The Mazda CX-7 was brought in to play a part in the small SUV segment. It joins, among others, BMW X3, Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav4.

The Mazda CX-7 has beautiful sports car styling, skilfully blended with the powerful drive and utility of an SUV, offering performance and design that's inviting to look at, entertaining to drive and fun to use. With the introduction of Mazda 2 and now CX-7, the Mazda badge has emerged to greater heights.

With the CX-7, Mazda achieved what they believe to be real merit of a "sport crossover SUV". The sport crossover SUV comes from fusing the original values of the SUV with those of a sports car. The SUV values Mazda sought were powerful and tough looks, lots of practicality and ease of driving due to the extensive visibility afforded by the high seat position.

The meter cluster is inspired by the thoroughbred Mazda RX-8, with the meters' zero markers in the six o'clock position.

The power-sliding glass sunroof and unique double-roof instrument panel provides a sophisticated facade.

The rear seat flat fold function can be activated from the rear seats, or can be quickly transformed with just a flick of a lever in the cargo area. A reversible cargo floor panel lets you switch to a hard plastic surface for hauling rough and tumble loads, with additional storage space under the panel around the spare tyre.

Under the bonnet of the Mazda CX-7 lies a version of the turbo-charged and intercooled 2,3-litre four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine that powers the Mazda6 MPS and Mazda3 MPS.

This engine delivers power output of 175kW at 5000rpm and 350Nm of torque at 2500rpm.

The CX-7 combines dynamic movement and bold presence to create a passionate statement.

The side profile sports an aggressively rising belt line, a curved roof and prominent fender arches producing Mazda's unique signature. A tapered cabin rests securely on the lower body's broad shoulders. From the rear, the detailed round motif tail lamp and large dual exhaust outlets emphasise the Japanese's intentions of becoming major players in this segment.

In line with exterior styling, the interior of the Mazda CX-7 portrays an advanced and sporty image. Enveloping sports seats offer a sporty ambiance, while simultaneously a commanding seating position provides an all-encompassing view of the road.

The instrument panel consists of a unique "double-roof" structure in which a small "roof" over the meter cluster is positioned just in front of a large "roof" that extends across the entire instrument panel.

A three-dial instrument cluster, a console supporting the gear shift, three-spoke steering wheel and contoured front bucket seats all provide a high quality feel.

The steering wheel and shift knob are covered by high quality leather. The ventilation dials, the glove box lid and the door armrests are all in keeping with the high quality feel of the vehicle.

This Mazda is priced at R359990.
