Action-packed yarn with masculine men

Book: The Six Sacred Stones

Book: The Six Sacred Stones

Author: Mathew Reilly

Publisher: Macmillan

Reviewer: Nthabisang Moreosele

Reilly has written six action books with different heroes who all have one thing in common.

They all possess esoteric knowledge about the world's secrets.

These secrets are out in the open where everyone can see them. But no one does because the codes are only known by a few people.

The codes and the secrets are possessed or worshipped by a secret brotherhood, or an organisation that has come into possession of an ancient manuscript. There is a lot of dark knowledge or magic known to a few who want to use it to dominate the world.

The Da Vinci Code has led to a slew of books on the supernatural or secrets about the ancient world.

These books fuel the fascination everyone has about the civilisations that have gone before ours.

They are an attempt to reassure us that there are heroes among us who will rise up and rescue the world should any calamity befall us.

Reilly's plots have a short deadline that must be kept. If it is not met, then an unbelievable catastrophe will occur that will destroy the world.

All his heroes are rugged, masculine men who are extremely fit and who can be relied on to summon superhuman strength and endurance when it is needed.

If one suspends judgment, The Six Sacred Stones is a roller coaster of action from the first page to the last. It can be read as a sequel to the Seven Ancient Wonders, though it can stand on its own.

The pace is relentless with new challenges for the good team on every page. It is a superior McGyver. Once you are snared into the story, it is not easy to put down the book, which is also an excellent escapist yarn.
