The management of the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been divided into two camps, Sowetan has been told.

One camp is reportedly led by Danny Jordaan, the chief executive officer, and the other Nomfanelo Magwentshu, the chief operating officer.

Magwentshu is unhappy about some of the happenings at the LOC offices at Safa House in Nasrec that occur without her knowledge, Sowetan is told.

"Management meetings of the LOC are sometimes very chaotic because of the power struggle," said one insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"Part of the problem is that Danny has been single-handedly picking people on education and exposure trips abroad to prepare for the World Cup.

"He does not even check the skills of such people when doing the appointments. Staff members feel that he is favouring people he brought to the LOC."

Problems at Safa House surfaced after Tim Modise, communications manager, tendered his resignation letter two weeks ago. Modise, who enjoys the support government, changed his mind after a meeting with Jordaan last Monday.

Though the details of their meeting still remain a mystery, some of the issues that Modise was unhappy with are still to be dealt with.

Modise's frustrations also led to him not being part of the LOC media team that briefed an exclusive African journalists' briefing at the 26th Africa Cup of Nations in Accra on February 8.

Sowetan has also learnt that Cape Town-based Cape Town-based former South African Football Association staff member, is likely to head the marketing department of the LOC.

Magwentshu, who demanded to know the source of our information, has denied that there was a split within the LOC.

"I don't know what you are talking about and where it is coming from. I'm the chief operations officer and I report to the chief executive officer."

Magwentshu said her job was to deliver on the projects of the LOC and also ensuring that they meet all the deadlines.

Modise who has since decided to continue with his work declined to ellborate but did say: "I categorically deny any knowledge of Nomfanelo (Magwentshu) leading a faction because there is nothing like that."

Jordaan and Magwentshu are expected to address a joint media briefing today (Monday) to clear the air on the power struggle allegations.

Said Jordaan: "We have a COO who runs the every day bussiness of the LOC, I don't. People will be able to ask questions at a press conference becaues I won't comment at this stage."
