Both South African teams engaged in MTN Champions League got their campaigns to a winning start at the weekend.

Mamelodi Sundowns got the better of Miembeni SC of Zanzibar at Amani stadium on Friday -- winning the first leg by a Surprise Moriri header in the second half of the match.

"It was not pretty, but under the circumstances we are happy. Winning away was great, and we started well. Now it is up to us to maintain the momentum.

The good start can only be a positive for us from this point onwards," captain Michael Manzini said.

After crushing Lesotho Defence force 4-0 In Rustenburg, Platium Stars coach Miguel Gamondi was a satisfied man. He is happy with the big goals advantage they will take to Lesotho in the second leg in a fortnight. "It was good that we did not concede and are taking a big difference with us. This team will be very difficult in their own back yard," Gamondi said.

Stars were a different team from the one that turned out against Golden Arrows midweek, doing enough to kill the match as early as the 20th minute. Solomon Mathe, Sailor Tshabalala and Koketso Mmotong scored in the 14th, 15th and 19th minute to put the match beyond "Masheshena".

The last goal was scored by Collen Makgopela in the last minute of the match.
