Instead she threw herself into work, serving her church with love and distinction.
Affectionately known as Babes to her family and friends, Mashologu was born on September 17 1934 in East London, Eastern Cape.
She attended The Welch High School where she pursued her gift for music in the local high school choir and the church choir.
She was swept off her feet by the science and maths teacher at the school, Mabhelonke Mashologu. They got married in 1952 and had four daughters.
With the forced removals of the time and the need for work, she and her husband relocated to the former Transvaal and subsequently settled in Soweto.
The better part of her working career was spent at the auditing firm Arthur Andersen and Co.
On her retirement she offered her services to St John's Anglican Church in Orlando East.
The highlight of her life at church was when she became a member of the council and chairman of the Mother's Union.
She will be fondly remembered for her discipline and strong devotion to everything she pursued.
Mashologu will be buried today at West Park Cemetery. The service starts at 9am at St John's Anglican Church in Orlando East.
