Sports wear delegation in SA

A high-powered delegation from global sports wear company Adidas in Germany has arrived in South Africa on a fact-finding mission for the 2010 World Cup.

The eight-man delegation, which has split itself into two groups of four, are travelling to various parts of the country for a series of discussions with ordinary people.

Bob Mabaso, Adidas South Africa soccer marketing manager, whose company are technical sponsors of Bafana Bafana, said the delegation arrived on Monday.

"It is a delegation of our top designers, they come from different countries in Europe and South America but are all based at the headquarters in Germany.

"They are here to get South Africa's inspiration for the 2010 World Cup, One group is in Durban and the other inland.

"They will all meet again in Cape Town. We have taken them to Soweo, Umlazi, Johannesburg and other areas where they spoke to ordinary people.

"These are the initial stages of the preparations for the 2010 World Cup They will be back in South Africa at a later stage to meet the authorities."

Mabaso took the inland group to Potchefstroom on Wednesday night where they watched Orlando Pirates hammer Moroka Swallows 3-0 in a Soweto derby.

"We also took them on a tour to Safa House in Nasrec where they also had the opportunity to see the Soccer City renovations.

"They were impressed with the preparations at the venue where the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup will take place."

This weekend, the delegation will meet Capetonians. They are expected to return to Germany next week.
