WELLINGTON - A 101-year-old British widower threatened with being kicked out of New Zealand will be allowed to stay after all.
Immigration officials reversed their decision refusing residency to the man, who wanted to spend his last days there with his adopted son, his only living relative, after their minister, Clayton Cosgrove, asked the officials to think again.
The man, who has been living in New Zealand with his 63-year-old son since 2006, had lost an appeal to the Residence Review Board, which said his "age, his financial resources, the fact that his son lives in New Zealand and the fact the appellant has no family in Great Britain do not make him special". - Sapa-DPA
