Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto yesterday maintained that the province had improved dramatically in the last financial year.

Moloto said among the notable milestones the province had achieved was the fight against poverty and underdevelopment.

He said the economic growth rate had continued to grow on an average of 2,2percent over the past five years.

"The province can also stand up and shout without fear that the percentage of households with piped water has vividly increased from 78,1percent in the last financial year to 83,6percent.

"We therefore salute the local and district municipalities, which we believe have done a sterling job in this regard," said Moloto.

Moloto said the province had also achieved a milestone in the grade 12 examinations following the improved performance of matriculants last year.

This improvement, he said, had proved beyond doubt that the province was capable of doing well.

Moloto congratulated Mbilwi High School in the Vhembe region for its excellent results in maths and science subjects.

But Mike Holford of the DA said the government had failed to fight crime and poverty.
