A Gauteng-based black economic empowerment company has claimed that the squabbling within the Ebuhleni faction of Shembe Nazareth Baptist Church is threatening the survival of its business.

Mopane Marketing Solutions in Midrand claims that the church ordered 6000 umbrellas in December with the slogan "Shembe is the way" written on them.

The company claims the umbrellas were to be used by church members during this year's pilgrimage.

Company owner Clint le Roux said he had been in contact with the church's secretary, Chancy Sibisi, for the payment but was sent from pillar to post.

"They only paid me R3000 out of R204000. Yesterday I spoke to Sibisi, but he didn't come out clear.

"I do not know what's going on in their church, maybe they have displaced the money they are supposed to pay to me. I do not believe that Christians can do such a thing," said Le Roux.

He said the church leaders' actions had had huge impact on his company.

"We are a small business and I do not want to be given stories about the payment. I have also contacted my lawyer to draft a letter and send it to the Durban high court," he said.

Sibisi said they had an agreement with Le Roux that he would make umbrellas and they would sell to church members.

"It has nothing to do with the church. We gave him R3000 after the members bought umbrellas.

"Those umbrellas came very late because the plan was to sell during the pilgrimage," he said.
