An alleged serial killer and rapist lived up to his name when he pleaded not guilty to 16 charges in the Ladysmith high court yesterday
Vusumuzi Innocent Khumalo, 33, allegedly shot dead a father and his baby daughter, raped the mother of the baby and made her commit indecent acts.
In March last year Khumalo allegedly forced a woman, her baby and her fiance, Mzomusa Khanyile, into a bushy area at gun point. Khumalo allegedly fired twice at Khanyile, but missed. The woman lunged at Khumalo. He fired again, killing the child.
Khanyile and the woman struggled with Khumalo but Khumalo fired again, killing Khanyile.
Khumalo then forced the mother to perform indecent acts and raped her three times before allowing her to walk away.
Two weeks later, Lindiwe Dube and a 76-year-old woman were cutting grass when the accused allegedly pointed a gun at them.
Dube shouted at him and he shot her dead. Khumalo made the old woman walk some distance with him - he is charged with kidnapping for this - and made her perform an indecent act.
He tried to rape her but failed.
The trial is set down for the week. - Sapa
