William Gare, Bongani Mwelase, Tshepang Mohale, trainer Johnny du Plooy and other sparring partners have arrived in Bloemfontein.

They have set up a training camp there to finalise Gare's preparations for the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) title fight with Mauselion Francis Masoe next Saturday night.

"I am delighted to get this opportunity at home, unlike my previous [title] attempts where I fought away from home and lost fights simply because they were staged by promoters who cared for my opponents," said the SA champion.

He failed in three attempts to win the WBU and two WBF titles: against Antonio Perugino in Italy in 2000, Steve Roberts in the UK in 2001 and against Jamie Pitman in Australia in 2006.

His fight with Pitman was declared a technical draw after Pitman had been cut from an accidental clash of heads in the eighth round.

Gare's fight against Masoe from Samoa will be staged by Blacky Seoe who signed Gare in January.

"Blacky has my interests at heart," said the Sowetan whose fight next Saturday will take place at the Bloemfontein City Hall.

It will be bankrolled by the Free State sports department under MEC Ace Magashule.

Seoe, from that province, operates under the banner of Robs Promotions. He will be staging his maiden tournament since he assumed the role of promoter in December.

This will also be the first boxing tournament of such magnitude to take place in Free State.

Sadly though, Seoe could not get a television date with both the SABC and SuperSport.

But he still made the entrance free of charge.

Gare certified himself supremely fit physically and mentally and paid tribute to his stable- mates at Du Plooy's gym for giving wonderful sparring.

" I am not worried that I didn't get Masoe's tapes. Styles make fights. I will see what he brings in the first round and take it from there."
