The glamour world will come to Museum Africa in Newtown where all the latest trends in winter clothing, accessories and shoes are expected to dazzle fashion enthusiasts.
Regular Newtown patrons will be spoilt by a range of equally fashionable specials and cocktails with ritzy names that will appear on the menu of their favourite hang-outs and later put on their dancing shoes and celebrate in style at the after-parties throughout the precinct.
The yearly Arts and Culture Fashion Seminar, which traditionally coincides with the Summer Collections in August, will this year run alongside the Winter Collections. The seminar will feature topical industry panel discussions, pertinent presentations and innovative workshops relevant to the fashion industry.
Sanlam Fashion Week spokesman, Estelle Cooper, said: "All restaurants, bars, nightspots, bookstores and the Market photo workshops have partnered with the fashion week to ensure that the glamour and glitz continues beyond the catwalks for that weekend."
Both new and established designers such as Amanda Laird Cherry, Terrence Bray, Ole Ledimo of House of Ole, Sanche Frolich of Story, Jacky Lucking of Miss Scarlet, Diana Lerato George of Mon Moir and Mumsi Makhokolo of Glori are featured and will strut their stuff.
Cooper told Sowetan pink is the season's colour this year.
On the runways, a variety of warm colours such as browns, chocolate, black and greys will feature prominently.
Many designers are expected to show their concern about recent events in African countries such as Kenya and Chad.
Ole Ledimo of House of Ole says he is one designer whose work was inspired by the instabilities in Africa.
Ledimo, who draws inspiration from "God's creation", says various elements of the military feature prominently in his range.
"Fashion is a language by which designers communicate. Most of my designs are military-combat inspired. So many wars have happened in Africa. Many people have been killed. My theme is "peace on our beautiful continent".
Another designer, Mumsi Makhondo, says her range is inspired by things that affect women.
"My designs are inspired by the past, the present and the future. They communicate the fashion journey that the women walked."
Makhondo says she is also inspired by the global organic fashion trend.
"My designs are 80percent metro fabric - I used cotton and synthetic blends with warm colours. This is going to be one of the most interesting fashion shows of my career."
The Sanlam SA Fashion Week is open to all and tickets are available from Ticket Connection stands or at www.ticketconnection.co.za. Entrance is R150.
