The football SuperSport United has played so far this season has yielded results, but the Tshwane team has not had fans flocking to their matches.

Though they finished the first part of the season in third place on the Absa Premiership log, support at their matches is still low.

Club spokesman David "Mazolman" Sikhosana has appealed to their fans to show a little appreciation, as they strengthen their championship challenge.

"People must come and support football. When we play at Super Stadium, for instance, we are on their doorstep and they have no excuse to not attend matches," Sikhosana said.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori were particularly disappointed by the poor attendance at the Gauteng Challenge, which also featured Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows.

"There are many things we are doing for the community. We have launched some social programmes... So they need to understand that we also need their support," he said.

It has been said that Matsatsantsa play painfully dull soccer, and that they don't allow for individual players to be stars.

"It is not true that we do not encourage players to have a profile... But we also are aware that players can be famous for unbecoming behavior, and that is what we discourage," said Sikhosana.
