No antidote to Snakes

Getting a softball official in Limpopo who would say Mahwelereng Spikes will fail to defend their LimDev Super League title this season was akin to finding a needle in a haystack yesterday.

This after "The Snakes", as Spikes are widely known, registered two emphatic wins in league matches at the Seshego diamonds on Sunday.

Mentored by Koloi "Mkhize" Kekana, Spikes walloped Seshego Cannons 11-0 and went on to hammer the relegation-threatened Seshego Raiders 11-2. Spikes now lead the 12-team log with 15 points, with nine matches to go.

Their close competitors are Seleteng Giant Killers who have 27 points, with three matches in hand.

"Spikes are on a roll and really we can't take anything away from their form this season," Cannons' publicist Joseph "Chief" Motladi said yesterday.

Mamphiri Sethosa, Moletlane Texas' secretary, was equally optimistic that Spikes will defend their title.

"They are on top of their game and I don't doubt their potential of winning the championship," Sethosa said.

Irish Mphahlele, Killers' brand manager, also acknowledged the Snakes' potential to secure their title in Mahwelereng at the end of the season.

"We will make it very difficult for them to succeed this season, though. But one can confess they are on a roll," he said.
