James Kamte, pictured, one of the finest black golfers on the Sunshine Tour and an inspiration to a number of aspiring golfers, has made remarkable progress in the game.
His recent victory in the Dimension Data Pro-Am at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City and his exceptional performance in Dubai made South African golf lovers proud.
But his altercation with rules official Dirk Cloete in the first round of the Africa Cup Golf Challenge played at the Fish River Sun Hotel and Country Club at the weekend, over the time he was permitted to look for his two lost golf balls on the 14th hole, had an adverse effect on his game.
And it resulted in him dropping shots.
But he made amends for his mistakes when he finished with a three-under-par 69 in the second round, 71 in the third and 72 in the final round to end up tied for 10th with a total of 284.
"It was tough out there, I didn't putt well at all. I missed four or five short putts that could have gone in - it would have changed the outcome," said Kamte.
"If I had sunk them, I would have been in with a shout. Birdying the last three holes on Friday had put me back into the race."
The R190000 first prize was won by Shaun Norris with a 13-under-par 275.
Morris mastered the windy conditions.
