Two Mpumalanga men appeared in the Tonga magistrate's court on Friday on charges of possession of stolen property and theft of an electrical meter box.

They made their second appearance before magistrate Christiaan Swanepoel. They were not asked to plead on the charges and their cases were postponed to March 4.

Jimmy Mdluli, 28, and Erick Mabaso, 30, were allegedly caught red-handed in possession of an electricity meter box belonging to the AFM Church in Naas Trust near Komatipoort. They were denied bail during their first appearance.

Police said copper wires and electric cables were also recovered from the suspects. They were allegedly stolen from nearby houses.

Captain Amos Mashele said the suspects were also conducting illegal electricity connections, charging residents R600 each.
