While police are still searching for the body of a Limpopo man who "drowned" after being caught having sex with another man's wife, a family member says he had been spotted in Alexandra township in Johannesburg.

The whereabouts of Dickson Makeke has become the subject of speculation since he disappeared naked three weeks ago after being caught having sex with a taxi operator's wife.

A family member who did not wish to be identified said yesterday that they had heard rumours that Makeke had been seen in Alexandra, but no indications were made as to where in particular. "We are following every lead regarding the matter with the hope of finding him soon."

Makeke, 45, who worked as a community liaison officer for the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality, was last seen while running away from an angry mob in GaMampuru village in Steelpoort outside Burgersfort.

He had allegedly gone to visit the woman, with whom he had an affair, when the woman's husband surprised them.

Makeke escaped from the angry man and ran into the overflowing Tubatse River with a group of villagers in hot pursuit.

Of grave concern is that nobody knows his whereabouts or if he did drown in the river.

It is not yet known if he had drowned or managed to cross over to the other side of the river to avoid being caught.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said yesterday efforts to trace Makeke had so far failed to yield any positive results, "but the search is still on".

Ramatseba said Makeke's 4x4 bakkie that was parked at a house next to the home of his alleged girlfriend was taken home by his wife, who was in the company of police.

"We are currently investigating a missing person's case," said Ramatseba.
