Arthur is not dismissed

Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola denied on Saturday that Proteas coach Mickey Arthur had been axed from the national selection committee.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola denied on Saturday that Proteas coach Mickey Arthur had been axed from the national selection committee.

News24 reported earlier that Arthur had been sacked from the selection committee after the CSA general council had held a conference call to discuss the bitter row between Arthur and CSA president Norman Arendse.

"He can't be sacked as a selector - it's in his contract."

The general council issued a statement after the conference reaffirming its commitment to the CSA policy on transformation as far as the national team was concerned. The CSA transformation policy calls for seven players of colour in touring squads comprising 15 or more players. There is also a non-enforceable target of four players of colour on the field.

Arendse and Arthur are reported to have had a heated argument during a conference call on Tuesday to finalise the team to tour Bangladesh for two Tests and three one-day internationals. - Sapa
