Another police officer, who arrived at the scene when Ekurhuleni Metro police chief Robert McBride crashed his car, is in trouble.
Ekurhuleni metro police officer Hendrik Degenaar, 38, appeared in the Pretoria magistrate's court yesterday on charges of assault and defeating the ends of justice.
He is alleged to have assaulted an eyewitness who tried to take pictures at the accident scene.
Degenaar, of Brakpan, was arrested on January 12. He was granted R500 bail on January 16.
His case was postponed to March 12.
In the same court but separately, the doctor who allegedly issued a false report regarding McBride's sobriety made a brief appearance, also charged with defeating the ends of justice.
Dr Joseph Morolong Moratioa, 44, of Montana Park in Pretoria, is out on R1000 bail.
According to the charge sheet, Moratioa issued a medical certificate claiming he had examined McBride on December 21 last year.
But the state claims Moratioa never examined McBride.
The case was postponed to March 12.
