The Durban leg of the Yellow Pages series at Kings Park Stadium tomorrow looks set to be dominated by the 3000m steeplechase contests.
In the men's race, Reuben Ramolefi has made it known that he plans to kick-start this year on a positive note.
Competing in his first race in the event since the IAAF world championships in Japan last year, Ramolefi is aware that he will be facing stiff opposition, with Emmanuel Mkhabela, Sivuyile Dlongwana and Anthony Godongwana being his biggest rivals.
"My target is to open the season with a sub-eight minutes, 30 seconds performance. I have prepared well for this race. Tests have indicated I'm in the right form to achieve my goal," Ramolefi said.
Meanwhile, Teboho Masehla and Nolene Conrad renew their perennial quest for supremacy in the women's 3000m steeplechase.
They have taken turns breaking the national record, with Masehla the only athlete to have broken the 10-minute barrier when she covered the distance in 9min:55sec when the Yellow Pages series was staged in Stellenbosch last year.
"The Beijing Olympic qualifier is 9:55. Therefore, nothing short of a national record effort will get me closer to an Olympic qualifier," said Masehla.
