Female police officers acted as midwives when a woman gave birth at the Hercules police station in Pretoria West yesterday.

Gladis Khumbula, 20, was on her way to a nearby clinic when she told a taxi driver that her water had broken.

"The taxi driver stopped at the Hercules police station, and some of the female constables assisted Gladis to deliver," Captain Prince Mokhabela said.

The mother and her baby girl were later taken to Kalafong Hospital. - Sapa
