no resting on ropes
Action has been lined up for Thomas Mashaba, Silence Mabuza, Cassius Baloyi, Osborne Machimana, Zolani Marali and Hawk Makepula on home soil and abroad over the next three months.
Their promoter, Rodney Berman said Thomas Mashaba would kick-start the operation in the US on March 7 with the defence of the IBO featherweight title against Mexico's highly experienced Cristobal Cruz, a hard puncher.
"Mashaba created a storm in the US after his stunning ninth round knockout victory over that country's beloved boxer Eric Aiken," Berman said.
He added that the Mashaba-Cruz bout will be the main event on an ESPN televised Banner Promotions bill in the Fox Theatre, Connecticut.
Berman presented Mashaba with a glittering IBO ring last weekend. Those rings are given to reigning champions of that sanctioning boxing body.
Berman further announced that he was fervently pursuing a unification bout for Mabuza, the IBO bantamweight champion, with present IBF world titleholder Joseph Agbeko of Ghana.
Mabuza delivered a sublime performance at Emperors Palace last Saturday night when he knocked out Eden Sonsona in the eighth round.
Berman's longest-serving fighter, Baloyi will challenge Mzonke Fana for the IBF junior lightweight title while IBO welterweight champion Isaac Hlatshwayo could land a mega-bucks fight against Britain's vaunted warrior Ricky Hatton in Manchester as early as May 24.
Berman said Machimana would be groomed in the US following his first round blow-out of Corrie Sanders, while WBF featherweight champion Marali could head a bill in Eastern Cape in the next few months.
"We are forming a promotional link with one of our favourite sons Vuyani Bungu, who is now ready to promote exclusively in the Eastern Cape."
Makepula will challenge Zolile Mbityi for the vacant IBO junior bantamweight title at Emperors Palace on April 29, announced Berman in his parting shot.
