A Limpopo magistrate may find himself in hot water after his former girlfriend opened a case of statutory rape against him.
Magistrate Azwihangwisi Ramavhale had been embroiled in a lovers' tiff with Khensani Michavi since November last year.
The matter ended in the court of law.
The two had an affair that started eight years ago when Michavi was only 15 years old.
The two are fighting over Michavi's family property. Last year, Ramavhale sought a court order to take over property he claims to have bought for Michavi. He also locked a room he had completed refurbishing for her.
Michavi, of Ha-Tshikonelo village outside Malamulele, is now believed to have opened a rape case with the Thohoyandou police.
The case was opened after Michavi, now aged 23, went to seek help from the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Unit (TVEP).
The unit believes that she was a minor when she became involved with Ramavhale.
No arrest has yet been made.
According to TVEP senior legal officer Tshilidzi Masikhwa, they are helping "a young girl who has gone through a lot of stress".
"I can confirm that Michavi had visited us to seek help, and she ended up opening a rape case against her ex-boyfriend," said Masikhwa.
Michavi had a romantic relationship with Ramavhale until it went sour in November.
Police spokesman Captain Mashudu Malelo could not confirm whether or not a case had been opened, but Sowetan was reliably informed that the young woman had reported the matter.
Several attempts to open a case since 2006 allegedly failed as police in Malamulele had allegedly refused to help her.
Masikhwa said that Michavi had expressed concern about the continuing abuse and harassment at her home, and now she was being accommodated by the victim support unit.
