A 26-year-old man who had just been released from prison allegedly shot and killed his former girlfriend in Winterveldt, Pretoria, on Tuesday night.

The man pumped three bullets into his ex-lover Rhoda Sibiya, 47, after she refused to take him back because he had been violent and abusive.

He was released from prison on Tuesday after serving a three-month sentence for theft. After his release, he went straight to Sibiya's house to plead with her to take him back and decided to end her life when she turned down his pleas.

A devastated Matheus Moyana, Sibiya's uncle, said his niece had ended her relationship with the man just before his arrest in October.

Moyana said the former boyfriend went into the house where Sibiya was relaxing with her friend and asked to speak to her outside.

"My niece's friend said she heard him telling Rhoda that he was back and that they should resume the affair. She said she did not hear how my niece had responded, but heard three gunshots soon after," said Moyana.

The man was arrested and will appear in court soon to face a murder charge.
