Educate people about the true role of revolution

The confusion of the DA and its leader, Helen Zille, about the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) warrants an informed response.

The confusion of the DA and its leader, Helen Zille, about the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) warrants an informed response.

Because their call to halt the NDR could confuse sections of society, we should help to throw some light around the essence and intentions of the NDR.

Among other noble objectives, it seeks to create an independent nation through the kind of nationalism that disregards narrow racial and ethnic exclusivity.

It accepts democracy as both the means and end of the struggle of the people of South Africa.

Because racial oppression, gender suppression and class exploitation of the black majority were interconnected social realities under colonial and apartheid repression, it requires a revolution to remove them.

The NDR is therefore directed towards the realisation of the objectives of the Freedom Charter.

Beyond partisan affiliations and narrow ideological predispositions, all South Africans should be united in the creation of a single, non-racial, non-sexist and democratic nation through political and economic emancipation of the black majority - and Africans in particular.

let this serve as a call to the ANC and the mass democratic movement to intensify education in society about the true meaning of the NDR.
