The lead singer of the popular mbaqanga group, Soul Brothers, David Masondo, 58, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and pointing a firearm at his terrified wife.

Inspector Kay Makhubele said police officers were alerted by a worried neighbour that Masondo, (pictured), was threatening to kill his wife.

"When we arrived at the house in Mofolo, Soweto, we found him beating his wife with one hand and carrying a firearm in the other .

"We don't know what the fight was all about."

Makhubela said Masondo's wife has a protection order against her husband - which she obtained early this month.

He will appear in the Protea magistrates' court tomorrow charged with assault and pointing a firearm.
