"Why talk about fashion when I'm going to jail?" Choreographer Somizi Mhlongo threw this broadside at journalists when he entered the Randburg magistrate's court to face a charge of indecent assault yesterday.

Mhlongo was dressed to the hilt in a pair of designer jeans, shirt and tie, and was sporting a cap that had "F...ing Criminal" emblazoned on it.

The 34-year-old actor appearance at the court was brief, and the case was postponed to March 7.

The reason given by Mhlongo's new attorney, Nyiko Khupane, was that Mhlongo's previous attorney, Gubane Khumalo, had "just transferred" the case to him.

He told magistrate Mombakazi Twele that he needed time to familiarise himself with the case.

Mhlongo is charged with indecently assaulting a fan last year after offering him a lift.

During his first court appearance in November, state prosecutor Ronnie Makhadi told the court that the fan recognised Mhlongo when he offered him a lift and that Mhlongo took him to his Crestwood Hills home where he proceeded to "fondle" the man's "private parts".

Mhlongo was arrested on November 29 after the complainant opened a case against him at the Douglasdale police station.

He was then released on bail of R2000 on the same day of his arrest ahead of his first appearance on November 30.
