DNA samples taken from alleged rapist and murderer Richman Makhwenkwe did not match those of the victims.

Superintendent Luhein Frazenburg told the Johannesburg high court yesterday that they could not read Makhwenkwe's DNA samples into those of the three victims because of the DNA mixture found on the samples. He said DNA mixture referred to a situation where the DNA of more than one person was found in the samples. He said the results excluded Makhwenkwe's DNA.

Frazenburg said: "In a DNA mixture you cannot say how many people were involved except that it is the DNA of more than one person."

He said the DNA found at the scene could not link Makhwenkwe with the victims.
