It might not win a beauty pageant, but Nissan's Grand Livina has a beauty that is more than skin-deep.
A recent test of the seven-seater Grand Livina Acenta+ proved that this vehicle is indeed practical in terms of space and driveability.
The design is not the greatest you have seen, but entering the car was a pleasant surprise.
The interior in particular caught my and my family's attention.
Beautiful leather seats are complemented by a well laid out dashboard.
This is the type of vehicle you could easily get hooked on. Though it is a big car, the Grand Livina is easy to drive. Driving it was an effortless operation at all times, even in peak-hour traffic.
Strangely, the Livina - the five-door hatch - is not as appealing as the Grand Livina.
This made me wonder whether it was necessary for the two to share a name. They don't have much in common.
On the road, our Grand Livina Acenta+ did not do badly. The 1,6 petrol engine only loses its breath at about 160kmh.
This engine produces 80kW at 6000rpm and 153Nm at 4400rpm.
The Grand Livina offers a lot of space and comfort and can be distinguished by a third row of seats and a larger rear window.
It offers two extra seats in a third row which easily folds flat to create a generous boot space.
The range has an open feel from the two-tone trim and panoramic windows.
The contoured seats are comfortable and supportive, and there are useful storage areas and cup holders for every passenger. Comfort and convenience features include an in-dash radio with CD player and six speakers on all except the entry Visia model, as well as electric windows and air-conditioner.
Safety features include a high mounted stop lamp, front seat belt pretensioners, and ABS with EBD and Brake Assist on the Acenta and Acenta+ models.
All models are fitted with Microdot security features. The sophisticated laser microdot technology provides each vehicle with its own identification in the form of myriad dots, etched onto various parts of the vehicles. Approximately 10000 high-tech dots are sprayed onto a minimum of 88 sites on the vehicle, making it difficult for would-be thieves to alter the car's identity.
Microdot technology helps to track vehicle owners, thus reducing the number of cars whose owners cannot be traced.
