The third Marula festival will be launched by Limpopo MEC for economic development, environment and tourism, Collins Chabane, in Polokwane tomorrow.

The festival is aimed at raising awareness about economic and tourism opportunities and to empower local communities by selling the marula fruit.

Department spokesman Lehlogonolo Masoga said the department wanted to utilise the marula fruit season to attract domestic, regional and international tourists to the province.

Masoga said that Chabane would award certificates to tour guides who had been trained in French and German and young people who were trained in hospitality management.

"This was done as part of a skills development programme to position Limpopo for the international market leading up to 2010," said Masoga.
