While Orlando Pirates' playing personnel may be hard at training for the Absa Premiership second round, after the Africa Cup of Nations, two senior management officials are in the US to learn more about marketing.

Floyd "Jomo" Mbele, the club's head of administration, and assistant executive brand manager Nkosana Khoza are in New York for an international marketing conference.

Irvin Khoza, chairman of Amabhakabhaka, told Sowetan yesterday that the week-long conference formed part of the club's plans to improve their marketing and branding.

"... They are rubbing shoulders with some of the best marketing gurus in the world," Khoza said.

"Our management team's itinerary also includes a visit to soccer legend Dr Steve "Kalamazoo" Mokone, whom we all know recently underwent an operation. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Mbele said: "The marketing conference we are attending deals with all the aspects of marketing in sports in general. There are many people from various sporting codes attending, locally and internationally.

"We have senior representatives from the National Basketball Association, New York Knicks, Major League Soccer and American Football League. Independent marketing experts are also with us."
